Glenville is a small community located about five miles north of Cashiers, NC on Hwy 107.  The greatest item of interest is Lake Glenville (see photo below) which is located there.  The lake, sometimes referred to as Thorpe RESERVOIR after the man who designed it, is 1462 acres in size with 26 miles of shoreline.   It was built in the early 1940's by Alcoa Aluminum to provide hydroelectric power for the war effort.  A public access lake, it still generates power and is the highest mountain lake east of the Mississippi (the highest altitude is 3,492 feet above sea level).  The community of Glenville is located on the eastern shore.  There is a marina there along with a county store, several shops, a VFW post, several homes, a church and a post office.  Many public access boat ramps are located around the lake.   Scattered around Lake Glenville are various residential communities/areas where both homes and lots for sale can be found.
